YOUR POSITION WITH TNC

The Grants Specialist provides highly specialized finance/accounting-related services to the Florida Chapter of The Nature Conservancy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Grants Specialist will be responsible for grant-related financial management and reporting in accordance with TNC policies and procedures and best practices, including budget development; grants administration, management and reporting; and other financial activities for FL Chapter private and public grants. This position will be responsible for tracking grant due dates, monitoring financial activity and providing forecasts using standard and specialized financial reports, and communicating with Project Managers and Finance on issues related to grants. This position will support several different Departments in the FL Chapter.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

Position will:
• Be responsible for the management, maintenance and reporting of private and public grant-related financial data. This includes annual budget development, monitoring financial information (including current grant tracking, accounts payables, and funds received and receivable), and processing of internal financial forms.
• Review grant accounting transactions, ensuring expenses are billed appropriately. Monitor monthly labor reports and work with Project Manager and Finance to process corrections as needed.
• Extract financial reports from general ledger and other reporting systems and provide “real time” feedback to Project Managers.
• In coordination with Project Managers, ensure grant spending is on track and develop expense forecasts as needed.
• Track grant report due dates and work with Project Managers to ensure reports are complete, accurate and submitted on-time.
• For government-funded projects, be responsible for review of proposals, preparation of budgets and preparation and submission of information to Grants Specialist. Work closely with staff to ensure that the terms and conditions of government grant agreements are met and properly documented. May communicate directly with agency contracting officers to clarify or negotiate financial and administrative requirements of agreements. Explore grant and contract opportunities for Programs and convey opportunities to appropriate staff.
• Provide timely and accurate updates to Project Managers on grant status. Participate in calls as needed with Project Managers to stay updated on award status and possible changes/modifications.
• Provide recommendations related to finances in the overall program planning, policy development and implementation; working in collaboration with Project Managers and Program Directors.
• Participate in regular Stewardship and Field Program Operations meetings.
• Ensure programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
• Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 3 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
• Experience with accounting/financial issues and analysis.
• Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems.
• Technical experience with spreadsheet programs, general ledger reports and financial management tools.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with a fast-moving work climate where a high degree of teamwork is essential
• Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
• Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data. Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
• Non-profit accounting experience.
• May require technical expertise on complex accounting/financial issues.
• US government grants accounting experience may be preferred or required.
